Maybe your organization has even had the lovely surprise call from a lawyer, letting them know you are a beneficiary of a gift in a donor’s will.  But taking proactive action to ask donors directly has been hard to do, the resources are tight, and frankly, who wants to begin a conversation that includes death and taxes?

Who created Legacy Jump Start?

The Legacy Jump Start program was built by Julia and Dave Magnuson-Ford, a father – daughter team who have been involved in hundreds of thousands of legacy gift invitations for over three decades combined. As a fundraiser and project manager, we know what it takes to make planned giving an integral part of a fundraising strategy, for large and small shops.

Who is Legacy Jump Start for?

The strategies outlined in this program are appropriate for small to medium sized non-profits, with no or limited planned giving activities. For fundraisers who are just starting out with planned giving to those who have had plenty of meetings but would like to make legacy fundraising a systematic part of their fundraising strategy, this program outlines concrete action steps for you to take.

What does Legacy Jump Start cost?

$500 CAD plus tax (GST). This includes lifetime access to the online program. Go ahead, try a few lessons to see if it makes sense for you.

If you know that you could use a little extra help, we offer coaching support packages for an additional $500 plus tax. This gives you one-on-one time with an expert to work on your specific situation.

What you’ll learn (and do!)

Each week we will take you through your own Legacy Jump Start project, through videos, transcripts, worksheets and other resources. Every module has multiple formats so you can pick the one that works best for you.

Your Legacy Jump Start project isn’t just about learning what to do, it’s about actually doing it! By completing each module and implementing the action steps, you will:

  • Create a schedule and timeline for legacy giving activities that works for your organization.

  • Be confident with your language around legacy giving, both in conversation and in written documents.

  • Understand how to choose the best candidates to approach for legacy giving, and uncover your organization’s overall potential.

  • Ask donors for a legacy gift!  (Isn’t this what it’s all about?  If you aren’t the person who has the conversation, you’ll be able to equip your colleague or board member with exactly what to say, and how to respond when the donor say, “Yes, I’d like to leave a gift to your organization in my will!”

  • Ensure that donors who make a commitment are properly thanked and stewarded, year after year.

FAQ

How is the online program delivered?

The Legacy Jump Start program is hosted online through the platform Teachery. Over a 5 week period, one module is released each week, with a week’s break between module 2 and 3. You will receive an email letting you know new content is available.

Each module has 3-5 lessons. Each lesson includes a video that’s between 4 to 12 minutes long, and a worksheet,  the transcript, and the slide deck. Plus, there are also samples, templates, and checklists.

How much time should I expect to invest each week?

Depends on what you want to make happen – but set aside 2-3 hours in a week to review material and take action.

Can I share Legacy Jump Start with others at my organization?

Legacy Jump Start is licensed on a per person basis. After all, it’s one individual that will learn (and hopefully implement) the knowledge contained in Legacy Jump Start. If an organization would like to purchase additional licenses, contact us to inquire about available discounts.
